Report

DUSCC’s long unbeaten run came to a pretty definitive halt after this 8 wicket thumping to St Andrews Uni Staff. The wheels, plus the engine, the seats and the exhaust came off the DUSCC innings in the 4th over when Stan Frankland took 4 wickets, including a hat-trick. The fourth of those came when he tipped a fierce drive from Dennis Petrie perfectly into the hands of mid-off: perhaps we should just have stopped there and then. Miles Dixon (13) and Scott Rodgers (23) hit out effectively but all too briefly in mid-innings, while Steve Boarder propped up one end and was eventually ninth out for a top score of 26.

Wickets needed to be taken early in the St Andrews chase to have any chance of winning, but they didn’t arrive despite plenty of shots to a well-populated slip and gully region. On a perfectly decent batting pitch the runs were knocked off in 14 overs despite fading light. Congratulations go to St Andrews on a big win, and in particular to Stan for career-best figures (though perhaps he should be thanking us?); we shall have to try a bit harder in defence of the Ferrier Cup in June.
