Report

DUSCC visited Doocot Park to face Almond Valley for the second time this season, and achieved a reasonably comfortable win by 5 wickets with 4.1 overs to spare. Valley were playing some more occasional players which gave us an opportunity, having won the toss and decided to field, to rotate the bowling and give everyone 2 overs. Initially Dennis Petrie bowled with pace and accuracy to take 2 wickets at no cost, and Alan MacDonald took 2 more, both to stumpings by Scott Rodgers. One was an excellent, sharp piece of work as the batsman just drifted out of his crease; one was… um… slightly fortunate as the ball deflected back onto the stumps from his right pad. To be fair to him it was off a wide… On debut, John Southalan also took 2 wickets, the first with just his second delivery for the club, (and he also took a catch and scored some runs). Richard Miller, Alan Bell, Colin Reid and Mark Stephenson also chipped in with wickets as Valley were dismissed for 82 in 16.3 overs.

In reply DUSCC made some changes to the batting order, and players yet to have much of a chance with the bat so far this season went in early. Mark Stephenson played some attractive aerial shots and made 20, and Scott Rodgers played his finishing role to customary effect, taking 16 off an over in reaching 24 not out.

Played in glorious weather, on a beautiful ground against a team it is always a pleasure to play, and with everyone getting a chance to make a contribution, this game felt like a perfect example of why DUSCC exists.
