Report

DUSCC won game 2 of the series with Almond Valley by 33 runs despite the early loss of top order wickets, an increasingly common feature of our batting this year… this time we were 3 wickets down inside 3 overs and eventually 5 wickets down with just 40 on the board. Steve Boarder held up one end and was joined by Scott Rodgers for a 6th wicket partnership of 70 which put the innings back on the rails. Steve’s patient 37 enabled Scott (an excellent 34) and Blair Smith (11 not out, including a shot-of-the-season clip for 6 over mid- wicket) to play more attacking shots at the end of the 20 overs, by which time DUSCC had accumulated 125-7.

Valley’s innings began in similarly shaky fashion, Blair’s extravagant swing of a new ball (cost 65 rupees, according to Scott?) seeing 2 wickets fall in the first over. Against well-controlled bowling, particularly from Kabir Dherwani (2-6 from his 4 overs) Valley had to resort to some ambitious running between the wickets and in turn had 3 batsmen run out. The last wicket fell from the last ball of the 20th over, with Valley on 92. Congratulations to Prakash and Mahmud for their maiden DUSCC runs and wickets.
