Steffen Lang was born in Germany and obtained his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at the University of Konstanz. He developed total syntheses for three natural products with anti-cancer activity as well as for a range of their derivatives. At this time he joined the Graduate Research School Chemical Biology and was funded by a fellowship from the German National Academic Foundation. In order to gain more experience in Drug Discovery and Fragment based Drug Design he joined Chris Abell’s Group in Oct 2009 with a fellowship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), working on the Polo-Box Domain of Polo-like Kinase 1. He is currently developing chemical probes for proteins involved in epigenetic regulation. Outside of the lab he likes learning languages, history and programming as well as going to the gym.
