I am originally from County Durham, England. After studying biochemistry at the University of Oxford I first arrived in sunny Dundee to do a PhD on RNA polymerase I transcription and nucleolar formation in the lab of Brian McStay. I then moved to Switzerland on an EMBO fellowship to Rafal Ciosk’s lab at the FMI in Basel to study RNA binding proteins and germline regulation. I returned to Dundee in late 2013 and after a brief stay in David Horn’s lab learning about regulation of VSG expression, I took up a Marie Curie fellowship in Ron Hay’s lab to study the effects of SUMO on cellular stress responses and differentiation. Until now I have spent most of my career using molecular and cell biology to study various aspects of gene regulation. In September 2017, I joined the Ciulli lab to change focus and learn more about chemical biology and the use of chemical probes to target protein-protein interactions in living cells. In my free time I enjoy being with family and friends and adventuring outdoors.
