As a native Dundonian, he started his career as a trainee laboratory technician on the YTS scheme at Dundee Institute of Technology (Abertay University), before moving to the Scottish Crop Research Institute in Invergowrie (now JHI), after a short stint moving across the Tay to St. Andrews University, to be Jim Naismith’s Lab Manager/ Research Technician. After 5 & half years, returning to work in Dundee, initially to DDU, then to DSTT, which is now MRC Research & Services.

In November 2024, he joined CeTPD as the Senior Structural Biophysics Technician, providing technical support to the Biology Lab, particularly to the Structural Biologists/Biophysicists.

Mark is also the Co-lead for Life Sciences for the Technician Commitment, promoting roles within the technical community of the University Ecosystem.

Outside the lab, he enjoys watching Football & Cycling, sometimes through a lens, as he is also a keen amateur Sports Photographer.
