Profile

Alexandra, originally from Belarus and raised in Germany, is a biochemist passionate about understanding how protein modifications regulate cellular processes. She completed her undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Heidelberg University, where she worked on developing semisynthetic NADP⁺ FRET-based biosensors in the research group of Prof. Kai Johnsson and investigated protein–lipid interactions in GPCRs using metabolic labelling in the research group of Prof. Britta Brügger. She then pursued her interdisciplinary Ph.D. with Prof. Beat Fierz at EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland, focusing on the single-molecule biophysics of the chromatin writer PRC1 and its ubiquitination kinetics in the context of transcriptional repression. Fascinated by the ability of E3 ligases to control protein fate and degrade the undruggable, Alexandra joined the international KOODAC team as a biophysicist and structural biologist. Outside the lab, she enjoys hiking (dreaming about the Swiss Alps), photography, and graphic design.
