Profile

Past Member: April – September 2022, Visiting PhD student (University of Córdoba, Spain)

Alejandro, a native of Málaga in southern Spain, received his Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 2017 and completed his Master’s in Translational Biomedical Research in 2018 at the University of Córdoba. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded a competitive grant from the Spanish Science Ministry (FPU Fellowship) where he developed a keen interest in the analysis of PTMs and their impact on cell dynamics, with a focus on pharmacological applications. His research encompassed the fields of protein biochemistry, molecular biology, cell signalling, chemical biology and drug discovery. Alejandro also spent a short period in the lab of Alessio Ciulli, gaining exposure to the area of TPD. In 2024, he started a postdoctoral fellowship funded by the Fundación Alfonso Martín Escudero in the laboratory of Prof. Ciulli, focused on establishing rational principles for the design of molecular glues. He is currently supported by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (UKRI) postdoctoral fellowship, aimed at consolidating his transition to an independent researcher. In his leisure time, he enjoys hiking, running, socializing with friends, and reading.
