‘Accelerating Drug Discovery’ – Braemar Summit 2023
A prestigious audience of policy makers, entrepreneurs and scientists from across the UK will hear about Dundee’s world-leading expertise in drug discovery at next month’s Braemar Summit.
Dundee is the partner university of this year’s Summit and will be hosting a panel session around the theme of ‘Accelerating Drug Discovery’ on Wednesday 13 September.
The Braemar Summit was first hosted in 2021 and has quickly established itself as one of the most influential events of its kind. Featuring three days of lectures, talks and other sessions, it showcases “the best that is being said and thought in the UK”.
The theme for the summit is ‘The Great Acceleration’, with the Dundee panellists outlining the potential of scientific excellence and the challenges that must be overcome to ensure the benefits of this innovation are felt across the globe.
Our session will be compered by Sarah Smith, BBC North America Editor, and will feature the following panellists:
- Professor Alessio Ciulli (Director of the Centre for Targeted Protein Degradation) –revolutionising drug development to treat diseases previously thought to be un-druggable
- Professor Sir Mike Ferguson (co-founder of the Drug Discovery Unit) – developing treatments for neglected tropical diseases
- Dr David McBeth (Vice-Principal for Enterprise & Economic Transformation) – leading the vision for accelerating biomedical spinouts and innovation in Dundee
In addition to exploring the ways in which new technology is revolutionising drug discovery, the panel discussion will examine opportunities for collaboration and economies of scale to accelerate commercialisation of research, attract new private sector investment into life sciences, and create jobs.
Members of the University community can register to stream the session live.
