The MOth (Material Other) Research Group was established in 2020 to create a safe place for DJCAD staff to discuss current and future research projects. As a group we are made up of colleagues from jewellery & metal design, textile design, product design and craft and sustainability. What unites us is a love of materials, their history, ways of being worked and how making also suggests a way of knowing ‘otherwise’. 

We have interests in craft, sustainability, health & wellbeing, new technologies, and new materials. We put a strong emphasis on play, experimentation, and embodied experience.

Through this website we aim to share our research with a wider community of designers, anthropologists and anyone one else with an interest in engaging with materials.
