Study Room Name Series: 1. Dr Saleyha Ahsan
The Robertson Trust Medical Library at the University of Dundee has named its group study room after Dr Saleyha Ahsan, a distinguished alumna whose career spans medicine, humanitarian work, and journalism. This dedication recognises her outstanding contributions to healthcare, human rights, and public health education.

Who is Dr Saleyha Ahsan?
Dr Ahsan graduated from the University of Dundee’s School of Medicine in 2006, later specialising in emergency medicine. Her journey, however, has been anything but conventional. Before studying medicine, she was the first British Muslim woman to train at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, serving as a Medical Support Officer in the British Army.
Driven by a passion for humanitarian work, she has provided medical aid in conflict zones, including Libya and Syria. Her frontline experiences have shaped her advocacy for global health and human rights, earning her a Master’s in International Humanitarian and Human Rights Law.
A Voice for Public Health
Beyond clinical practice, Dr Ahsan is widely known for her work in media. She has presented and contributed to BBC and Channel 4 programmes, including Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, Panorama, and Dispatches. She was a key voice during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing frontline insights into the challenges faced by healthcare workers.
Why Name a Study Room After Her?
Dr Ahsan’s career reflects resilience, dedication, and a commitment to education—values that align with the purpose of a university study space. The group study room named in her honour serves as a reminder of what can be achieved through determination and a passion for learning. Whether you are a medical student preparing for exams or a researcher exploring global health challenges, this space embodies the spirit of inquiry and service that Dr Ahsan represents.
By dedicating this study room to her, we celebrate not just her achievements but also the potential within every student at the University of Dundee.
This room is bookable by current students and staff.
