Breaking news – Redundancy notice (Section 188) removed
The University has confirmed that the section 188 letter issued in March 2025 has been formally withdrawn! This is a direct result of the industrial action we took and the action we threatened.
This is our victory! It means that, in the short term, there will not be compulsory redundancies related to the recovery plan.
Redundancies at the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science and Educational Assistive Technology remain under review by the interim Principal, but more positive language is being used by senior management, giving us hope for a positive resolution. The Gillies report and its aftermath shows what collective action can achieve.

In June 2025, we continue to ask the University Executive Group and Court to rule out redundancies by the removal of the legally required Section 188 notice, and to stop redundancies targeting staff in the Leverhulme Research Centre for Forensic Science and Educational Assistive Technology areas.
