Museums and National Year of Reading

We all know that the Library holds books but you may not know that the University Museum Services has many unique and important collections relating to reading and the happiness and inspiration it can bring. During the National Year of Reading we want to highlight just a few of these.

We hold one of the country’s most significant collections of artists’ books, featuring works by leading UK and international artists, as well as books by DJCAD staff and students.

Unpacking My Library by Buzz Spector, 1995 (University of Dundee Museums, artists’ book collection Dundee, copyright the artist)

The Museum has Scotland’s only public collection of original comics art, from local DC Thomson favourites to pages from Marvel and DC comics, Japanese manga and more.

Morag the Toerag from The Scotsman by Tom Paterson, 1995 (University of Dundee Museums, Comics Art Collection, copyright the artist / National World Publishing Ltd)

We also hold a wide range of text-based art, including collaborations between artists and poets, cartoons and book illustrations and artworks inspired by literature.

Paroakial by John Smart based on poems by Tom Leonard, 1995 (University of Dundee Museums, DJCAD Graphic Design Collection, copyright the artist)
