History of SFMM

The Scottish Fluid Mechanics Meeting is an annual event that has been running since 1988. Its original aim was to bring together academics from Scottish Universities with interests in all aspects of fluid mechanics and related topics to discuss current research and foster new research collaborations amongst the community. The very first meeting in 1988 was held at this year’s host location (University of Dundee – see photo below).

Since this initial meeting, a large number of different Schools and Departments across 10 Scottish Universities have hosted the annual SFMM event, some multiple times (see list of previous SFMM events). The meeting itself continues to grow and now attracts a large number of early-career researchers and PhD students as well as more established academics to share their knowledge and experiences in fluid mechanics research. Recently, we have also seen a significant growth in contributions submitted to the event both as oral presentations and posters. We hope these trends continue for this year’s event and going forward.
