“First of all, the times
in ’64 at the Swiss Expo in Lausanne, seeing
in a booth, a closed circuit that showed
on a television, in a theatrical way, the
assembly and disassembly of an equipment
mechanical, I guessed what TV could be like
as an art tool. From this intuition, to the
almost subliminal beginning, then in my
various theoretical-operational projects
such as «TV as memory “(’68),” Video-rooms ”
(1971-72), “Classification of ways of using video
in Arte “(72),” MUel-Electronic Museum “(concrete-
tosi in ’93 after a long gestation), “U.V.-
Virtual University “(1997),” Porziun Project-
cola “(1996).”
“In Italy [1971] Luciano Giaccari equipped his Studio 970/2 in Varese with videocameras to record spectacles and performances, while Lola Bonora inaugurated the first institutional centre for video art at the museum in the Palazzo Dei Diamanti in Ferrara, which promoted the U-Tape Festival. In Florence, the production studio Art/Tapes/22 collaborated with the Castelli-Sonnabend Galery to create video art by a long list of North American and European artists (from the United States: Vito Acconi, Douglas David, Simone Forti, Frank Gillette, Alan Kaprow, Joan Jonas, Charlemagne Palestine, Bill Viola; from Europe: Christian Boltanski, Antoni Muntadas, Urs Luthi) as well as a rising generation of Italians, including Vincenzo Agnetti, Alighiero Boetti, Pier Paolo Calzolari, Giuseppe Chiari, Jannis Kounellis, Giulio Paolini, Gino De Dominicis, and Sandro Chia. ”
