Mr Inston is a Consultant surgeon specialising in kidney transplants and in vascular access for dialysis. His clinical work is based at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, UK.
The hospital has a large dialysis population and one of the largest kidney transplant programs in the UK. Alongside this Nick leads a multidisciplinary vascular access research team which is involved in clinical trials as well as basic science research aiming to identify areas to improve vascular access outcomes. These involve identifying the risk factors for failure and novel techniques for pre-operative prediction and planning. In addition he is current President of the Vascular Access Society of Britain and Ireland, a member of the European Renal best Practice guidelines group and is a faculty member of international vascular access societies.
