Starting university this September? Welcome to what might just become your second home over the next few years! Whether you’re cramming for your first assignment deadline, hunting down that one specific journal article, or simply need somewhere peaceful to focus, we’ve got you covered across four fantastic library locations.
Where You’ll Find Us
Main Library (City Campus) – This is your go-to hub and where you’ll probably spend most of your time. It’s got everything you need, including a dedicated Law section for those studying legal subjects. Pro tip: We’ve got a handy video showing you exactly how to get in – no more awkward fumbling with your student card on day one!
DJCAD Library (Matthew Building, City Campus) – Perfect for our creative students, this specialised space in the Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design has resources tailored to artistic disciplines.
Robertson Trust Medical Library (Ninewells Hospital) – Medical students, this one’s for you! What makes it extra special? It’s open 24/7 all year round.
Kirkcaldy Campus Library (Fife) – A welcoming space for students based at our Fife campus, with all the essentials you need for successful study.
Your student ID card is your golden ticket to all these spaces, so don’t leave home without it! The brilliant thing is that no matter what you’re studying, you can use any of our libraries – we’re all about flexibility here. Don’t forget to download the University of Dundee app.
Interactive Maps – For each of our library sites an interactive map is available. Use these maps to locate books and journals, and other facilities and services. You can also check the availability and book our study rooms.
During exam periods, the Main Library goes 24/7 too, and our ‘Ask the Library’ chat service is available round the clock whenever you need help.
Finding What You Need (Without the Stress!)
Let’s be honest – finding academic resources can feel overwhelming at first. Here’s how we make it easier:
Want to learn in a fun way? Try our Digital Library Escape Room – it’s like a game where you solve puzzles and challenges while discovering how to navigate our library resources. Think detective work meets library skills, and you’ll come out knowing exactly how to find what you need for your studies. It’s way more engaging than reading a manual!

Library Search is your new best friend. Think of it as Google, but for academic stuff – books, journals, online resources from around the world, all in one place.
e-Journals gives you access to thousands of electronic journals, whether you’re on campus sipping coffee or at home in your pyjamas.
A-Z Database Directory is where you’ll find specialised resources like LinkedIn Learning (great for building those CV skills) or Web of Science (essential for research).
Reading Lists take the guesswork out of finding course materials. Just search by your module name, code, or lecturer’s name and you’ll find everything you need.
Subject Guides are like having a personal academic mentor – they’ll show you the best resources for your subject and teach you skills like using EndNote for referencing.
We’re Here to Help (Seriously!)
University can feel overwhelming sometimes, but you’re not doing this alone:
Book one-on-one sessions with our Academic Librarians who can help with everything from finding sources for your first essay to planning a major research project. They’re genuinely lovely and want to see you succeed.
Our Borrowing Services are straightforward – find what you need on the shelf or use our click and collect service.
The InfoZone helpdesks at each library are staffed by friendly people who’ve literally heard every question before. Nothing is too basic or too complicated – just ask!
Spaces That Work for You

We get it – everyone studies differently. That’s why we offer:
Varied Study Spaces – Silent study zones for deep focus, collaborative areas for group projects, desks with PCs, and private bookable rooms for when you really need to buckle down.
Tech Support – Full WiFi coverage, network PCs, and laptops you can borrow (Main Library). Plus, we’ll help you connect to eduroam so you’re never without internet.
Printing Made Easy – Multiple printing options across all sites, including colour and A3 printing at the Main Library. Print from your laptop or use our computers.
Food & Fuel – The Main Library’s Cafe has a servery for hot snacks and a vast choice of cold ones. All sites have vending machines, microwaves, and kitchenettes.
