{"id":2385,"date":"2026-05-13T11:59:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T11:59:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/library\/?p=2385"},"modified":"2026-04-23T11:56:28","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T11:56:28","slug":"exam-season-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/library\/exam-season-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Exam Season Part 2 &#8211; Making the most of the Library during exams (without burning out)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In Part 1, we looked at finding a way of studying that works for you \u2014 from choosing the right space to managing expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This part is about what happens once&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;in the middle of it \u2014 when the days get longer, the&nbsp;Library&nbsp;is open 24\/7, and&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;easy to lose track of time.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Using late hours properly<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Studying later in the day can be&nbsp;really effective&nbsp;\u2014 fewer distractions, quieter spaces, and a chance to focus.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But&nbsp;there\u2019s&nbsp;a difference between working late because it suits&nbsp;you, and&nbsp;working late because you feel like you should.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;focused and getting through what you planned, great \u2014 keep going.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;tired, rereading the same page, or struggling to concentrate, staying longer&nbsp;won\u2019t&nbsp;fix it.&nbsp;That\u2019s&nbsp;usually your sign to stop and come back fresh.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A better way to approach late study:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Decide in advance how late\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0staying\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Focus on one or two clear tasks\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid starting something new when\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0already tired\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>And the obvious one \u2014 sleep matters.&nbsp;You\u2019ll&nbsp;get far more out of your time if&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;properly rested.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>If&nbsp;you\u2019re&nbsp;stuck,&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;sit with it<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As deadlines get closer,&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;easy to spend too long trying to figure things out on your own.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If something&nbsp;isn\u2019t&nbsp;working \u2014 whether&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;finding a resource, using a database, or sorting out your referencing \u2014&nbsp;it\u2019s&nbsp;worth asking for help.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It&nbsp;doesn\u2019t&nbsp;have to be a big question. Often, a quick bit of guidance is all it takes to get you moving again.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Take breaks that&nbsp;actually help<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At some point,&nbsp;you\u2019ll&nbsp;hit a wall. Everyone does.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temptation is to stay where you are and push through, but that\u2019s usually when things become less productive.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not all breaks are equal.
