If you’re heading home for the holidays, travelling during the semester, or simply spending time away from UoD but still need a quiet place to study, the SCONUL Access Scheme is here to make your life a lot easier.
SCONUL Access lets you use study spaces, books, and journals at hundreds of university libraries across the UK and Ireland. Depending on your student status, you might even be able to borrow print books from other universities—super handy if you’re revising or working on an assignment while you’re away.
So, how does it work?
1. Check if you’re eligible
Students on most undergraduate and postgraduate taught courses can join the scheme, but eligibility varies slightly—so make sure you look at the details on the SCONUL Access website.
2. Apply online
Just click the ‘Apply’ button on the SCONUL website and fill in the form. It only takes a few minutes.
3. Wait for approval
Your application is processed by the UoD library—not SCONUL directly. Processing times can vary, so if you’re unsure or need an update, contact us for help.
4. Look out for your approval email
Once your application is accepted, you’ll get an email with all the info you need to start using other SCONUL libraries. Bring this email (digital or printed) and your student ID when you visit another university library.
Make studying easier wherever you are
Whether you’re at home for the holidays, staying somewhere new, or simply need a different study environment, SCONUL Access gives you the flexibility to study almost anywhere.
If you want to explore the scheme, check your eligibility, or start your application, head to the SCONUL Access website and get set up before you travel.
Happy studying and Happy Holidays!
