He has also co-authored <\/span><span class=\"s8\">The Life Model of social work practice: Advances in theory and practice, <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Fourth<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> Edition <\/span><span class=\"s5\">(202<\/span><span class=\"s5\">1<\/span><span class=\"s5\">); and<\/span> <span class=\"s8\">Public health social work in maternal and child health: A forward <\/span><span class=\"s8\">P<\/span><span class=\"s8\">lan<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">(1986). <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s4\"><span class=\"s5\">Alex is the Ed<\/span><span class=\"s5\">itor of a series for Columbia University Press <\/span><span class=\"s5\">about <\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u201c<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Helping<\/span> <span class=\"s5\">Empower the<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Powerless<\/span><span class=\"s5\">.<\/span><span class=\"s5\">\u201d<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Alex has published articles on social work practice, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">evidenced-guided practice, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">social work with groups, field instruction, supervision, organizational <\/span><span class=\"s5\">behavior,<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> and teaching. He also directed a federally funded project on the training of social workers for leadership in the field of maternal and child health from 1980 to 1997. Alex served as the President and on the board of the Association for the Advancement of<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Social Work with Groups, an international professional organization. For the Council on Social work Education, Alex served as a commissioner on the Commission on Education and Curriculum Innovation and as chair for the Group Work Symposia. <\/span><span class=\"s5\">He currently se<\/span><span class=\"s5\">rves on the Planning Committee for the International Interdisciplinary Conference on Clinical Supervision He serves<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> on the editorial boards of the following journals: <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Clinical Social Work Journal<\/span><span class=\"s5\">, <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Clinical<\/span> <span class=\"s8\">Journal of Supervision<\/span><span class=\"s5\">; <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Journal of Human Behavior<\/span><span class=\"s8\"> in the Social Environment<\/span><span class=\"s5\">;<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Social Work, <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Social Work with Groups<\/span><span class=\"s5\">; <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Social Work in Health Care<\/span><span class=\"s5\">; <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Reflections: Narratives of Professional Helping, <\/span><span class=\"s5\">and <\/span><span class=\"s8\">Teaching in Social Work<\/span><span class=\"s5\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s10\"><span class=\"s5\">Alex\u2019s awards <\/span><span class=\"s5\">include<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Council on Social Work Education Significan<\/span><span class=\"s5\">t <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Lifetime<\/span><span class=\"s5\">Achie<\/span><span class=\"s5\">vement Award <\/span><span class=\"s5\">and the International Association for the Advancement of Social Work with Group\u2019s <\/span><span class=\"s5\">Lifetime<\/span><span class=\"s5\"> Achievement Award. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Alex Gitterman is a Professor of Social Work and former Director of the Doctoral Program at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work.
