Find out more about the project and the research questions we’re hoping to explore

The Futures Collective project is a collaboration between Dundee Libraries and researchers at the University of Dundee in Medicine and Design.

We are interested in the future of care and medicine and how speculative design can enable people to imagine health and care inventions for 25 years in the future… This project will focus on imagining and prototyping – or modelling – artefacts of the future in a series of creative workshops. Giving focus to imaginative artefacts of the future – which will explore the convergence of science, technology, and patient-provider dynamics – will allow participants the opportunity to visualise, share, and interact with objects that embody or relate to healthcare issues. The artefacts will also facilitate participants in imagining and discussing future scenarios that will meet their health needs and aspirations.

The project will consist of two creative workshops focused on understanding what young people want from the health care system over the next 25 years and to facilitate participants in imagining future scenarios and artefacts that will meet their health aspirations.

The project considers

1) What do young people in Dundee imagine their future healthcare to look like?

2) How can young people influence thinking around 4P medicine in Scotland by imagining the future of health technologies in the next 25 years?

3) In what ways can human centred design encourage young people to actively participate in caring for their own health and shaping their own future?
