Help! App\u00a0<\/strong>to offer a source of information and support to individuals in the Tayside region affected in anyway by suicide.\u00a0 Our challenge is for you to use your skills to develop innovative ways to publicise the app and to highlight the message that <strong>we can all help prevent suicide<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We are particularly keen to promote the app amongst young people, and amongst groups who experience higher rates of death by suicide. These target groups include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Men (3x higher suicide risk than women)<\/li>\n<li>Individuals living in deprived communities (3x higher suicide risk compared to general population).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <strong>Suicide? Help! App <\/strong>has been developed using recommended aims for local suicide prevention initiative laid out in national guidelines<strong>. <\/strong>These aims are to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>raise community awareness of the scale and impact of suicide and self-harm<\/li>\n<li>reduce the stigma around suicide and self-harm<\/li>\n<li>address common misconceptions by emphasising that:<\/li>\n<li>suicide is not inevitable and can be prevented<\/li>\n<li>asking someone about suicidal thoughts does not increase risk<\/li>\n<li>make people aware of the support available nationally and locally<\/li>\n<li>encourage help-seeking behaviour<\/li>\n<li>encourage communities to recognise and respond to a suicide risk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Additional Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.chooselife.net\/\">Choose Life &#8211; Suicide prevention in Scotland<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samaritans.org\/your-community\/samaritans-ireland-scotland-and-wales\/samaritans-scotland\">Samaritans in Scotland<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eveningtelegraph.co.uk\/fp\/andys-man-club-mental-health-group-teams-dundee-united-help-save-lives\/\">Andy&#8217;s Man Club<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Suicide is preventable.
