Breaking the Chains is a map and walking tour exploring Dundee\u2019s links to transatlantic slavery that was co-created by the University of Dundee Museums and Dundee Libraries in 2022 (see Breaking the Chains \u2013 University Culture Online<\/a> ). The response to the trail has been hugely positive and it has been widely used by schools and other groups as well as receiving a motion of commendation in the Scottish Parliament.<\/p>\n

Over the past year we\u2019ve been supporting the One World Centre, an organisation focused on Education for Global Citizenship, to develop an education resource pack called Breaking the Chains: Making Connections<\/em>, which takes each of the points on the original trail and uses it as a starting point for a wider discussion about themes relating to anti-racism, human rights, fair trade and other global citizenship issues. It aims to raise awareness of local and global issues of injustice today through a better understanding of the inequities of the past.<\/p>\n

The new resource was launched at the University on 22 April and is available for use in schools, further and higher education, community groups and lifelong learning. It can be accessed via Breaking the Chains: Making The Connections \u2013 One World Centre<\/a><\/p>\n
