Gretchen\u2019s poem was inspired by her studies in SF and by Dundee\u2019s seminal place in the development of the genre, through the work of Mary Shelley.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-3913\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/culture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/263\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-22-at-17.08.10-724x1024.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"724\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/culture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/263\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-22-at-17.08.10-724x1024.png 724w, https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/culture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/263\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-22-at-17.08.10-212x300.png 212w, https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/culture\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/263\/2023\/05\/Screenshot-2023-05-22-at-17.08.10.png 745w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 724px) 100vw, 724px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><i>listen <\/i>is a book-length cento using lines taken from science fiction novels; these fragments have subsequently been shaped into poetry through the creation of line and shape on the page, reflecting the genre-sparking work of Mary Shelley\u2019s Frankenstein where the Creature is crafted from pieces into a whole.
