Be a Big Back Garden Chatterbox – come along to the Baxter Park activity centre on Thursday 19 May between 3.30 and 6.30 to find out more about the history of the park and to share what Baxter Park means to you.<\/p>\n

The University Archives have teamed up with Dundee Volunteer and Voluntary Action, Stobswell Communities Team, Stobswell Forum, Friends of Baxter Park and Boomerang Community Centre to gather stories from the people of Dundee about their experiences and memories of Baxter park and record these in the University of Dundee Archives. It is hoped that others will be encouraged to visit the park and see it from a fresh perspective. Academics Susan Mains (Geography, University of Dundee) and Christine Kingsley (DJCAD, University of Dundee) will use the recordings and stories to inform their research about the importance of urban spaces and gardens in promoting well-being and communities.<\/p>\n

The event follows from the Archives’ Wellcome funded project<\/a> in collaboration with Morgan Academy to record the history of the park. The project has a website where you can find out more and listen to Morgan Academy pupils use their research to describe the development of Baxter Park since its opening in 1863.<\/p>\n

There is even a Quiz Trail that you can follow!<\/p>\n

If you are in the Park make sure you look out for the benches with QR codes where you can listen to the park’s history as you walk around.<\/p>\n
