It\u2019s fair to say that community festivals across Dundee have struggled over the past year. Both the\u00a0Stobswell\u00a0Forum and the University\u2019s own\u00a0<\/span>Wellcome\u00a0Centre for Anti-Infectives Research<\/span><\/a> (WCAIR) were determined to make <\/span>Stobfest<\/span><\/a>, Stobswell\u2019s annual festival, happen in 2021. Ali Floyd, from WCAIR tells us more about the festival, held earlier this year, and some of the great cross disciplinary cultural activity happening in the University. Ali says:<\/span><\/p>\n

“With our digital skills, we were able to help the Forum produce a variety of events; one of them showcased a fabulous new science art collaboration.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the Centre launch, we\u2019ve been heavily involved in\u00a0<\/span>science art collaborations<\/span><\/a>. For this event, we decided to pair up 2 artists with 2 of our scientists.\u00a0<\/span>Janice Aitken<\/span><\/a>\u00a0from DJCAD and\u00a0<\/span>Emily Fong<\/span><\/a>, our artist-in-digital-residence, met\u00a0<\/span>Mattie\u00a0Pawlowic<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Susan Wyllie<\/span><\/a>\u00a0at the end of 2020, and it was obvious that there was masses of potential, both for creation and conversation.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the first months of 2021, they began collaborating, bouncing ideas around and creating new pieces. We had sharing of images, discussion of concepts, painting, drawing and, perhaps most of all, play!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In May we ran a digital panel event as a key part of\u00a0Stobfest\u00a0where we shared what we had been up to. We had a fantastic turnout and lots of really great questions asked from our audience. We\u2019ve also\u00a0<\/span>put the video on our YouTube channel<\/span><\/a>, so you can watch it at any time.
