PGRs were asked to portray their <span class=\"markxf5ha66ta\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">research<\/span>\u00a0in a single image along with a 50 word description, providing a great way to showcase public engagement abilities, increase\u00a0<span class=\"markxf5ha66ta\" data-markjs=\"true\" data-ogac=\"\" data-ogab=\"\" data-ogsc=\"\" data-ogsb=\"\">research<\/span>\u00a0profiles and get creative all at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>Each entrant was asked to choose a research theme category that they feel matches their submission most closely. This year\u2019s categories were based on our four interdisciplinary research themes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Understanding and improving health and wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>Life-enhancing creativity and design<\/li>\n<li>Innovating technological solutions to tomorrow\u2019s problems<\/li>\n<li>Promoting social change to enhance diversity, justice and socio-economic prosperity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Doctoral Academy has thoroughly enjoyed exploring the fantastic research being done by their PGRs through the images and short descriptions submitted, and the judges were very impressed with the quality of the entries and the variety of topics. Even though they are everywhere, textiles and fibres are often undervalued as forensic evidence. The small particle size enables unique physical properties. These properties allow their use in ultrasensitive molecule detection for diagnostics. The spherically mounted existing targets are expensive and radiation sensitive, so cannot be permanently installed.
