You can also watch a how to video for this activity on our facebook page here\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=376569740348897\">https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=376569740348897<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Moon Paintings<\/h2>\n<p>This activity to make a moon will allow wee ones to enjoy the contrast of light and dark colours, to explore painting with sponges and their hands and the use of the stencil means whatever they do will magically make a good moon shape at the end. This will work for any age from 0 up, just make sure pencils and scissors stay out of reach of small babies, while bigger children can help you with the drawing and cutting out.<\/p>\n<p>You need:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A sheet of normal paper to make a stencil and a sheet in a dark colour like black or navy<\/li>\n<li>White paint<\/li>\n<li>An old sponge<\/li>\n<li>A tray or plate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-790 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/artatthestart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/97\/2020\/11\/moon-1-small-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Draw round a plate on the plane sheet of paper to make a moon stencil. If you tear the sponge in half it will get a nice texture that looks like craters. They can also use their hands to spread the paint.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-792 alignleft\" style=\"margin-top: 0.857143rem;margin-right: 1.71429rem;margin-bottom: 0.857143rem;font-size: 1rem\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/artatthestart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/97\/2020\/11\/moon-4-small-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Once the center is covered and looks nice and textured, you can gently peel off the paper stencil to reveal a nice moon shape.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-793 alignright\" style=\"margin-top: 0.857143rem;margin-bottom: 0.857143rem;margin-left: 1.71429rem\" src=\"https:\/\/sites.dundee.ac.uk\/artatthestart\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/97\/2020\/11\/moon-5-small-300x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You can help wee ones to finish off the picture by adding dots of white chalk and then smudging it to make stars.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Tinfoil Moon<\/h2>\n<p>This activity is an easy way to add interesting textures to a moon picture.
