She completed her undergraduate studies in biochemistry at Heidelberg University, where she worked on developing semisynthetic NADP\u207a FRET-based biosensors in the research group of Prof. Kai Johnsson and investigated protein\u2013lipid interactions in GPCRs using metabolic labelling in the research group of Prof. Britta Br\u00fcgger. She then pursued her interdisciplinary Ph.D. with Prof. Beat Fierz at EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland, focusing on the single-molecule biophysics of the chromatin writer PRC1 and its ubiquitination kinetics in the context of transcriptional repression. Fascinated by the ability of E3 ligases to control protein fate and degrade the undruggable, Alexandra joined the international KOODAC team as a biophysicist and structural biologist.
