His team oversees the analysis of small molecules for the MedChem Department as well as NMR-based screening and hit validation campaigns. Since his PhD in the group of Bernd Meyer he has a strong interest in the characterization of protein-ligand interactions. In 1999 they published the original paper on Saturation Transfer Difference NMR, which is now an industry standard for NMR-based hit finding. After completing his PostDoc at the University of California San Francisco with Thomas James on RNA-ligand interactions in 2004, he moved to Vienna to join Biovertis, an anti-infectives start-up company.
