Report

DUSCC won this latest game with Almond Valley by 5 wickets with 3 overs to spare, with impeccable timing before the arrival of heavy rain. A dubious DUSCC captain’s decision to bowl first in poor light only to get poorer was rewarded with an Almond Valley total of 130-5 off their 20 overs. Alan MacDonald bowled with accuracy and economy at the start of the innings but it was Dennis Petrie’s spell of 4-1-10-2 which helped most to keep Valley to a total of manageable proportions (certainly more than the filth being purveyed at the other end by.. um.. the captain again).

Dennis also starred with the bat, scoring an excellent unbeaten 55* with 6 4s and a 6 after coming in in the first over of the chase. There were also useful contributions from Mark Stephenson and Scott Rodgers, the latter scoring a rapid 27 before succumbing to his first attempt at a Kevin Pietersen ‘switch hit’. Served him right.

This was another enjoyable game with Valley; thanks again to them for the chance to play it. It might sound slightly ungrateful to point out that we have now won the 6-match ‘series’ with them for this summer by 3-0 (with one game cancelled). So I won’t.
